A SHORT LECTURE: Four Keys of Success

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the universe,

May Allah give His blessing and salutation upon His Messenger,

Our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all of his companions.

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says, (which means)

"O you who have believed, be patient, persevere, ...

... and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful. (Ali Imran: 200)

Allah gives His guide in this noble verse with four things,

which are patience, perseverance, standfast,

and fear of Allah 'azza wa jalla.

Because those four things can lead to triumph,

success, happiness, and salvation in this world and in the Hereafter.

SHABR

"O you who have believed, be patient,  ...

Indeed, a believer is ordered to be patient,

being patient in the obedience to Allah 'azza wa jalla,

being patient in avoiding disobedience against Allah 'azza wa jalla,

and being patient with the fate which Allah 'azza wa jalla has determined.

Allah ta'ala says, (which means)

"Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account." (azZumar : 10)

Therefore, patience is required in seeking (Islamic) knowledge, doing righteous deeds, and inviting people to Islam

to seek bounty from Allah upon all of those deeds.

MUSHABARAH

"... be patient and persevere ..."

it means continuous patience and perseverance,

because every believer always in need of patience,

to persevere upon obedience and righteousness.

MURABATHAH

"... be patient, persevere and remain stationed... "

Remain stationed means standfast in increasing good deeds,

with various kinds of good deeds and multiply it more.

As it was narrated in a hadith that the Prophet may peace be upon him said:

"Performing the wudu' (ablution) properly in spite of difficult circumstances, ...

... and waiting for the next shalat (prayer) after performing shalat, ..."

The Prophet may peace be upon him said: " That is Ar-Ribat (remain standfast), that is Ar-Ribat." (Narrated by Muslim)

When Allah 'azza wa jalla says (which means)

"O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed ... "

TAQWA

and then He says (which means): "... and fear Allah that you may be successful." (Ali Imran: 200)

And fear of Allah 'azza wa jalla covers all of these things,

it comprises patience in obedience, patience in avoiding sins,

patience with the destiny from Allah 'azza wa jalla, and the perseverance upon all of these,

It is a kind of 'ataf (connecting) a general term to a specific term (in Arabic linguistics)

And then Allah 'azza wa jalla closes His noble verse with His words,

(which mean) "... that you may be successful."

Because patience, perseverance, standfast, and fear of Allah

are factors that lead to attain triumph.

And the triumph is a term that consists of two things,

the first, attainment of what someone desires and, the second, salvation from what he is afraid of.

Therefore whosoever can be patient, persevere,

remain stationed, and fear of Allah 'azza wa jalla,

and then he remains upon the obedience to Allah 'azza wa jalla,

he will belong to those who are promised with triumph,

success, and happiness in the world and the Hereafter.

Allah knows best. And may Allah always give His salutation, peace, and blessing upon

His servant as well as His Messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, his family and all of his companions.
