A Short Lecture: Hidayah, the Greatest Favor from Allah
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the universe.
May Allah always confer His salutation, peace, and blessing upon our Prophet Muhammad,
his family, and all of his companions. Amma bad’u,
We ask Allah to teach us what is beneficial for us,
and give benefit upon what He has taught us,
indeed, He is the Protector of that and the Exalted in Might to do that.
My honorable audience,
my brothers in the sake of Allah,
This is a heart-to-heart advice
from a man whose heart feels happy with the favor of Allah,
remembers His grants,
Rejoiced with the flood of His favor upon it,
and would like to remind his muslim brothers about this great favor and noble grace.
Know that it is hidayah (guidance).
Indeed, only Allah who has given us success and made us among His guided slaves
who have approved Islam as their religion.
HIDAYAH IS A GRANT SOLELY FROM ALLAH
Allah, the Exalted, says about people who say (which means):
“And they will say, “Praise to Allah, who has guided us to this; and
we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us.” (QS. Al
A’raf: 43)
Guidance is solely a favor from Allah, the Exalted and the High.
He has chosen you among so many people
who have been hindered from this guidance into Islam
and embracing this noble religion,
the perfect religion and the straight path.
Many people are hindered from getting this favor of guidance,
astonishingly, however, there were some who were holding back from
this guidance, yet they met the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.
They were holding back from guidance and Islam despite knowing that
the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was upon the truth.
Of course, you already know Abu Thalib, the uncle of the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.
Someone who knew that the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was the Messenger of God, sent with the truth,
yet he was reluctantly unable to believe in Allah, the Exalted, because Allah is not willing guidance upon him.
And Allah says to His Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam (which means),
”Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you love.” (Al Qashash: 56)
If you realize that, you will understand this great and noble favor of Allah.
By Allah, without Allah’s will, we will never be guided,
we will have no faith, we will never do the prayer.
If you have understood this, then your heart will be closer to Allah,
you will have much more spirit to worship Allah,
you will have a greater yearning to meet Him,
and you will understand that this great favor needs protection, treatment, and preservation
from everything that can decrease it and or may damage it.
And Allah says in Surah Al Fatihah
which is the greatest chapter and we always repeat it over and over during our prayers
even in every raka’ah, (which means): ”Guide us to the straight path” (Al Fatihah: 6)
Indeed, this verse is a reminder about the favor of guidance.
When a muslim is reading it, he must remember that Allah is the only One who is capable to give the guidance
and He has chosen him among many people who do not receive this grace,
and then he must ask Allah to preserve this blessed guidance
toward Islam for the rest of his life.
THE GREATEST HIDAYAH IS THE GUIDANCE TOWARD TAWHEED
O my brothers in the sake of Allah, our compliance towards Islam truly is a great and noble favor
and guidance toward tawheed (the Oneness of Allah), sincerity toward Him in every deed,
is a noble and a great favor which one will not cherish except for those who was once far from it and then awarded by it
Allah, the Exalted, the Noble, says (which means), “And most of them
believe not in Allah except while they associate others with Him. ” (QS.
Yusuf: 106)
Someone believes in Allah and remembers Him only when he recites laa ilaaha illallaah
however sometimes he falls into states which may invalidate the shahada
while the shahada has its terms, consequences, and also nullifier.
Therefore it is obligatory for you, O my muslim brothers,
to understand the meaning of laa ilaaha illallaah.
And the meaning of these noble words is that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah.
None is worshiped but Allah, we do not intend our worships to anyone but Allah,
we don’t put our hope to any other but Allah, none is relied upon but Allah,
Only to Allah we repent and only to Allah we submit ourselves,
Only to Him we rely upon, sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs,
Our supplication is only to Allah, our expectation is only to Allah,
our prayers are only for Allah, our rites of sacrifice are only for Allah
our life is for Allah, and our death is for Allah.
”Say, ‘Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. …
… No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first [among you] of the Muslims.'” (Al An’am: 162-163)
After Allah has bestowed us this favor of tawheed and Islam,
will we then devote our acts of worship to others than He?
Is that our gratitude upon this noble grant and great favor?
”So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? ” (Ar Rahman: 13)
WE WILL BE ASKED ABOUT THIS FAVOR
The Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said in a hadith narrated by Muslim in his Shahih Book from Abu Hurairah he said,
”The Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam went out of his house one day …
… and there he found Abu Bakr and Umar radhiyallahu ‘anhuma. …
… Then he asked them, ‘What has brought you out of your houses today or at this hour?’…
… They said: ‘O Allah’s Messenger, it is hunger and thirst.’ …
… Thereupon he said: ‘Verily, what has brought you out has brought me out too; get up and let’s go.’ …
… And then he shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam (and all of them) came to the house of an Anshariy companion, …
… but he was not at home, however there was his wife. …
… Then he asked her, ‘Where is Anshariy so and so? Where is the owner of the house?’ …
… She replied, ‘He is going out to get some water for us.’ …
… Afterwards, the Anshariy companion arrived home and welcomed the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam …
… and the two companions as well, Abu Bakar dan Umar. …
… He was very happy and rejoice that he said, ‘Welcome the Messenger
of Allah, no one has more honourable guests today than I (have).’ …
… He then went out and brought them dates, a bunch of dates …
… consisting of ripe dates, dry dates, and fresh dates …
… and he put it before the Messenger of Allah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. He then took a hold of his knife, …
… and the Messenger of Allah said to him, ‘Beware of killing halub (a milch animal).’ …
It means ‘Beware, don’t slaughter a goat which seems to milk.’ and it
also shows the mercy of the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam
… He then went away and returned back with meat which had been cooked for them. …
… The Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam ate some of the ripe dates, dry dates, fresh dates, and the meat. …
… when they had been fully satisfied, the Allah’s Messenger shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, …
… ‘Indeed, you went out from your houses because of hunger and thirst
and then you didn’t go home until you have taken your fill and you have
been satisfied, …
… By Allah, you will certainly be questioned about this bounty.”’
O the blessed audience, the Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam understood this favor
that was the favor of satisfaction, eating, and provision and then he said that we would be asked about these favors,
How about the favor of Islam, tawheed, and religion? Which are ways for people to enter the Heaven,
which Allah will not forgive those who go against it.
” Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills.” (An Nisa: 48)
Shirk (acts of associating something with Allah) is a fatal mistake
and major sin, if someone dies upon this, Allah will not forgive him,
meanwhile sins other than shirk, they are under Allah’s will,
if Allah wills, He will forgive him and bestow His mercy upon him, or if He wills He will punish him.
Therefore, it is obligatory for every muslim to take a good attention towards things
which may damage his religion or decrease its quality or even nullify it
as well as take a good care of it more than he takes a good care of his body,
and have the spirit to learn knowledge of Islam
which is a noble and perfect religion and a straight path from which many people are hindered.
I ask Allah by His favor and generosity to guide us to the truth and goodness,
teach us what is beneficial for us and give benefit upon what He has taught us,
and make us among those who get guidance not those who are astray and misguiders.
O Allah, give us life upon tawheed and grant us death upon tawheed as well,
O Allah, make our last word in this world would be laa ilaaha illallaah,
O Allah, lift our souls out without being struck by fitnah, nor falling into shirk,
O Allah, we seek refuge to You from acts of shirk which we
realize and we ask Your forgiveness from them which we do not know
about.
Exalted are You, O my Lord I declare Your praise and I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except You,
I ask your forgiveness and repent to You.
May Allah always confor His salutation, peace, and blessing upon our Prophet Muhammad and all of his family and companions.
